# Membership

\# Petcare Owner Guide — Membership Program

Turn repeat customers into paying (or free-tier) members with recurring perks, discounts, and a shareable membership number. This guide covers setting up tiers, onboarding members yourself, and what your customers can do on their own.

### What is a Membership Tier? <a href="#ab95883c-93a3-439e-9c2f-c5423a06feca" id="ab95883c-93a3-439e-9c2f-c5423a06feca"></a>

A **tier** is a plan your customers join — for example "Gold Membership" or "VIP Boarding Club." Each tier defines:

* **How members join it** — free, a one-time payment, a recurring subscription, or automatically once a customer hits a lifetime spend threshold
* **Benefits** — a % discount, a specific perk (e.g. "1 free nail trim/month"), or bonus points, scoped to boarding, grooming, products, or all services
* **How long benefits last** before they expire and reissue

Every member gets a unique **Membership Number** (e.g. `MEM-AB12CD-XYZ123`) they can quote in person or show on their account.

### Part 1: Create a Membership Tier <a href="#ebdb3eea-ec8f-4271-a33a-25d3362390e6" id="ebdb3eea-ec8f-4271-a33a-25d3362390e6"></a>

1. Go to [**Dashboard → Marketing → Membership**](https://www.gopetai.com/dashboard/marketing/membership)
2. Click **Create Tier**
3. Fill in:
   * **Tier name** — e.g. "Gold Membership"
   * **Description** — what members get and why they should join
   * **How do members get this tier?**
     * **Free — anyone can join**
     * **One-time payment**
     * **Recurring subscription** *(requires Stripe connected — see below)*
     * **Total spending — no payment** *(auto-enrolls customers once their lifetime spend crosses a threshold you set)*
   * If **Free**, you'll see a checkbox: **"Enroll all current pet parents from your CRM"** — turn this on to instantly bulk-enroll every existing customer into the tier, instead of waiting for them to sign up themselves
   * If **One-time** or **Recurring**, set the **Price ($)**. Recurring tiers also ask for **Billing interval** (Monthly / Annually)
   * If **Total spending**, set the **Lifetime spend required ($)**
4. Under **Benefits**, click **Add benefit** for each perk. Pick:
   * **Type**: % Discount, Specific perk, or Bonus points
   * **Scope**: All services, Boarding, Grooming, or Products
   * For % Discount, you can also cap it to a number of sessions/nights
5. Set **Benefit validity (days)** — how long each issued benefit lasts before expiring. Check **"No expiry — benefits never expire"** if you don't want them to run out.
6. Optionally set an **Enrollment cap** to limit how many people can join this tier
7. Make sure **Active** is on (inactive tiers are hidden from both the dashboard and your public booking page)
8. Click **Create tier**

> **Recurring tiers need Stripe.** If Stripe isn't connected for your business yet, the "Recurring subscription" option shows "(Connect Stripe)" and stays disabled. Connect Stripe in **Dashboard → Settings → Payments** first.

### Part 2: Onboard a Member Yourself (staff-assisted) <a href="#id-94c38ee5-aa0c-4d4d-ba9b-a41148613248" id="id-94c38ee5-aa0c-4d4d-ba9b-a41148613248"></a>

Use this when a customer signs up in person, over the phone, or you want to manually move them onto a plan.

1. Go to **Dashboard → Marketing → Membership**
2. Click **Onboard Member**
3. **Step — Customer**: search by name or email and select the pet parent
   * If they already have an active membership, you'll see their current plan and can pick a different tier to upgrade or downgrade them
4. **Step — Tier**: pick the membership tier to enroll them in (their current tier, if any, is marked and disabled)
5. **Step — Payment**:
   * **Free tier** → click **Enroll — free**, done immediately
   * **Paid tier** → choose:
     * **Mark as paid** — for cash or in-person payment, completes enrollment right away
     * **Send Stripe payment link** — generates a payment link you can copy, or click **Email to `{customer email}`** to send it directly. Once they pay, their membership activates automatically and they land on your booking page's confirmation screen with a receipt.
6. **Step — Done**: confirms "Member enrolled!" (or "Membership switched!" if it was an upgrade/downgrade)

Every onboarding — cash or Stripe — creates a matching invoice in **Dashboard → Invoicing** for your records.

### Part 3: What Your Customers Can Do (Public Booking Page) <a href="#f65483ee-11f0-4cc9-839c-8b28c6965d99" id="f65483ee-11f0-4cc9-839c-8b28c6965d99"></a>

On your public booking page (gopetai.com/booking/yourbusiness or your custom domain), customers manage their own membership from the **Rewards** tab.

#### Joining a plan <a href="#id-7ef80c48-0faa-4e2d-8537-da63c8c50ea0" id="id-7ef80c48-0faa-4e2d-8537-da63c8c50ea0"></a>

* If they're not a member yet, they see **Membership Plans** — a list of your active, published tiers
* Free tier → **Join Free** button, enrolls instantly
* Paid tier → **Join Now** button, takes them through Stripe Checkout; once payment succeeds they land on a confirmation page showing their receipt and membership number

#### Once enrolled <a href="#id-626c7627-bfaf-42e2-a0c1-39ec81a44cc7" id="id-626c7627-bfaf-42e2-a0c1-39ec81a44cc7"></a>

Members see a premium membership card with:

* Their tier name and a **Member** badge
* Points available
* Their **Membership Number**
* **Renews** (or **Cancels**, if they've scheduled a cancellation) with the date

#### Switching plans <a href="#id-7e842914-b9bb-47c0-8c98-cf4886ae8762" id="id-7e842914-b9bb-47c0-8c98-cf4886ae8762"></a>

* Members click **Change plan** to see all switchable tiers, with their current one marked **"Your current plan"**
* Picking a different tier shows **Switch to this plan** — this cancels their old plan and starts the new one (paid tiers go through Stripe Checkout again)

#### Canceling <a href="#id-06d3b2c1-85e0-4b96-9a26-0438dbad45bd" id="id-06d3b2c1-85e0-4b96-9a26-0438dbad45bd"></a>

* **Cancel membership** → confirm with **Confirm cancel** (or **Keep** to back out)
* Recurring subscriptions cancel at the end of the current billing period; benefits stay active until then

### Understanding the Membership Dashboard <a href="#id-2cf15fb9-950b-446a-993c-a904741a1d51" id="id-2cf15fb9-950b-446a-993c-a904741a1d51"></a>

At the top of **Dashboard → Marketing → Membership** you'll see four stats:

| Stat                   | What it means                                               |
| ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Active tiers**       | How many tiers are currently active                         |
| **Active members**     | Total customers currently enrolled across all tiers         |
| **Est. recurring MRR** | Estimated monthly recurring revenue from paid subscriptions |
| **Canceled**           | Members who canceled outright (doesn't count tier switches) |

Below that, the **Members** table lists everyone enrolled, with columns for **Pet Parent**, **Tier**, **Membership #**, **Status**, and **Enrolled** date. You can:

* **Search** by name or email
* **Filter** by tier (**All tiers** dropdown)
* A member's status shows **Switched** if they moved to a different tier (rather than canceling outright)

On the **CRM** page (**Dashboard → CRM**), a customer's paid membership tier shows as a **gold badge** on their profile card, so staff can spot paying members at a glance; free/spend-based tiers show in teal.
